This lakefront sitting room was designed to feel light and comfortable yet refined. Thoughtful art selections pay homage to the owner’s love of the home’s surroundings, while also pulling out the blue and orange hues from the custom Stephen King Decorative Carpet’s rug, which became the jumping-off point for the palette. Warm and creamy white walls set the foundation, allowing the space to feel soft and welcoming while holding its own next to the views outside. Textured fabrics add fluidity and color, giving the space dimension, with complementary accents introducing warmth and contrast, pairing easily with the blue furnishings and the depth of the black walnut floors.

The pops of color and pattern in Fabricut Contract’s Terracotta GrottoStripe fabric complement the touches of blue in the opposite couch and rug—while hints of orange create cohesion within the color scheme and mesh well with the warm tones of the black walnut flooring, without being too brown.
DUNN-EDWARDS PAINT IN WHITE HEAT
We went with Dunn-Edwards’ White Heat as the backdrop for this space. It comes off as more of a creamy white that feels rich relative to the views outside and decorative high points around the room.

A custom Steven King DecorativeCarpet’s Sultanabad rug is the inspiration for the room’s color scheme, creating a bit of movement and pulling together the oranges and blues from the paintings and other colorful pieces. Hand-knotted by expert weavers, indigenous handspun wools are naturally dyed with plant-based pigments in small mountainous workshops to create these unique pieces and their individualistic colorways.

The bold dark saffron color of Swagger creates a beautiful contrast within the design composition that helps tie the space together, offering a subtle yet intriguing dissimilarity that makes you want to take a longer look.
