A New York native with over three decades of experience, Melanie’s portfolio reads like a tasteful travel map. While she and her team have completed projects country-wide, she’s always called back to Maine. Recently, she opened a new office in Northeast Harbor and enjoys soaking up the beauty of surrounding Mount Desert Island.
1.MIRRORS THAT ARE ART
Handcrafted gold leaf and egg tempera mirrors from husband-and-wife team Paul Monfredo and Nancy McCormick. These are gorgeous works of art that radiate with beautiful colors and gilded scenes of coastal Maine. It will make any ordinary wall look extraordinary.
2.GARDEN FLOWERS
Living beautifully in Maine would not be complete without a beautiful garden. Dahlias, peonies, hydrangeas and roses thrive in the Maine climate and bloom throughout the summer. There are many wonderful nurseries to buy from. I like to shop at Frost Farms, Plants Unlimited and Surry Gardens with the help of local gardener, Erika Lindquist.
3.TIMELESS BLANKETS
Luxurious handwoven blankets made with organic wool and dyed by hand on the coast of Maine. Great for cozy nights by the fire or keeping warm on a chilly boat ride. There are endless uses for these timeless blankets.
4.ANTIQUE TREASURES
A house in Maine just doesn’t seem complete without a few found or inherited furniture pieces. There are countless antique shops along coastal routes, but for a one-time shopping spree, the Downeast Antiques Show in Blue Hill in mid-August is a great opportunity to buy from some of the best dealers in the Northeast.
5.FRESH CERAMICS
Whether you are entertaining or hibernating at home, a collection of handmade ceramics is essential. I love these clever hand pinched pieces from Elizabeth Benotti…they imbue a fresh color palette that will brighten any day.
6.ARTISAN JEWELRY
A little bit of sparkle goes a long way when you can buy a few trinkets at local jewelry stores. Two of my favorites are Sam Shaw in Northeast Harbor and J. McVeigh Jewelers in Stonington.
7.HAND HOOKED RUGS
Using hand dyed wool and a punch hook, Melina White creates exquisite, hooked rugs reminiscent of views around Mount Desert Island. Rugs worthy of being passed down through generations.
