Tammaro Landscaping has a fun hook to their jobs: They get to create a backyard oasis for their clients. At a Cape Elizabeth home at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac, they built a landscape that gives off the essence of a private resort. Immediately when stepping out the back door, a patio with an outdoor grill station and countertops are a focal point. It’s a wonderful spot for outdoor entertainment, and it’s unbelievably close to the water’s edge. The next cluster of seating is two chairs situated to the view of the ocean, centered around a fire table. A soundtrack of soothing, running water is provided by an infinity edge pool with a sluice way. “It really sets the mood for the environment,” Nick says. “The pool is elevated, so the next thing you see from water level is the ocean.” And, when done with swimming in the pool, only a few steps away to warm up in is the spa.

Landscape lighting adds a thoughtful touch to the backyard in the evening.

On the other side of the property, the driveway is a piece of hardscaping that signals the wonders around the corner. The cobblestone runners for the vehicle to travel on are out of the ordinary and set the expectation that this house and property are unique. Nick adds, “The idea was to make it something special and not look at all like a typical driveway.”

Beyond the impressive hardscapes, the plants and grasses bring a soft beauty that enhances the ocean views. Native species were planted all around the property. Other seating areas and hidden gems were constructed around the yard, like a sodded area in the front and a second fire pit at beach level. Raised beds for vegetables make it easy to access delicious, fresh produce—providing more reasons to never leave home!
