Tucked away in the charming town of Brunswick, one hotel is making waves among tourists and locals alike with its choice of three idiosyncratic accommodations: The Main House, the Carriage House, and the Cottage. The original structure, The Main House, was built in 1848 and still has its rattling radiators, creaky floorboards, and stellar crown molding. Beyond its wraparound porch with views of Brunswick’s mall, stepping inside feels like stepping back in time.

The inn provides a bespoke and intimate setting for any type of event.

Owner Eileen Hornor embraces the “slow-fashioned” approach—a welcome relief in a world that moves quickly. The hotel’s thoughtful hospitality seems to whisper: we see you, we hear you, and we want to make you feel special.

“Last night, the pub was full, and I knew just about everybody’s name,” Eileen says of the onsite Pub 165. Her staff is just as dedicated to making each stay special…and delicious. Just try resisting the smell of fluffy blueberry pancakes in the morning. Winding down in the evening, the Pub offers Maine-made beer on tap to pair with light snacks, including Eileen’s cheese crackers, so buttery, thin, and crisp that you’ll find yourself reaching for more.

Owner Eileen Hornor, along with friend Kate Burham, tackled the challenge of redesigning the interiors following a fire.
Many travelers use OneSixtyFive as a quiet homebase to explore both Brunswick and other nearby areas of Maine.
OneSixtyFive is also a popular spot for private events and small weddings.

Walking through the halls, OneSixtyFive’s beautiful art collection brings the walls to life, supplied by nearby Bayview Gallery and local artist Sarah Loughridge. Eileen adds, “I couldn’t think of a more beautiful way to dress the walls.” The art pairs well with the newly designed space, a task taken on by Eileen and her close friend, Kate Burnham. Together, they updated the historic hotel without straying too far from its roots. The interiors now have a traditional yet fresh color palette, a mix of antique and modern decor, crisp white linens, and Brahms Mount throws. The thoughtful layers of design whisk the romantic-at-heart into a sense of timelessness that doesn’t sacrifice any modern comforts.

The new interiors are a refreshed take on classic New England with bolder colors and prints.

Another hidden boon of OneSixtyFive is its proximity to some of the state’s crown jewels, like Portland’s outstanding food and drink scene, Harpswell’s coastal trails, and Freeport’s shopping haven—all within a 40-minute drive. Brunswick is a wonderful spot for those who want to have a quiet, relaxing home base with incredible access to all types of adventures. Upon return, that enticing porch awaits you, the perfect place to watch the world go by with an evening libation in hand.
