Down a private road on Spruce Point lies a quiet, luxury getaway full of surprises, including a full kitchen, ocean views, heated pool, secluded cabana, and a fully stocked liquor and wine cabinet. These are just the perks available on-site of the two Boothbay Harbor Cottages at Spruce Point—much more is available off-site to guests renting these properties.

Knickerbocker Group designed the homes, landscapes, and interiors with a traditional, coastal feel.

The cottages are owned by Boothbay Harbor Country Club, which hired Knickerbocker Group as the architect, interior designer, and landscape architect. The finished cottages feel tucked away from the road, while remaining open to the expansive ocean views. Since there are two cottages on-site, it’s possible for two separate groups to rent them at the same time. With this in mind, Knickerbocker created distinctive zones within the property, separating the cottages with the large, heated pool, hot tub, and landscaping. Inside the upscale homes, the design team used a color palette of blues and neutral tones to pull the ocean inside, while the polished nickel and chrome fixtures, bespoke furnishings, and drapery woven with shimmery threads elevate the refinery. The cabana, Sea Gem, beyond the pool area is right on the coastal rocks for yet another oasis within the property, complete with its own fireplace, bar area, and full kitchen.

Sea Gem, the property’s cabana, has its own fireplace, open windows, bar area, and outdoor fire pit.
There are multiple outdoor seating areas throughout the property to enjoy a peaceful sunset over the water.

When staying at one of these two high-end cottages (though “cottages” hardly feels fitting to describe these luxury four-bedroom rentals), you gain access to all of Boothbay Harbor Country Club’s amenities, including a nationally recognized golf course that’s typically only open to club members. Kate Thomas, the marketing manager for the club, shares the shockingly long list of offerings: “There’s a new luxury spa on the premises that guests of the cottages can access. Everything from standard hair, nails, and massage to medical skin treatments.” There are four dining options that guests can access, so if there’s a night (or two) where cooking in the cottage’s expansive kitchen isn’t on the cards, guests can flag the club’s shuttle to pick them up for a fabulous dining experience.

Both cottages are available to rent, either by the same party or separate. The landscape creates privacy between the two buildings, divided by the pool.

Owner Paul Coulombe is a well-versed traveler and avid golfer, thus he’s borrowed from his vast international experiences to create an extravagant, detailed stay for his guests. From cooking classes taught by the resident pastry chef to painting lessons at the club, entertainment extends off the green as well. “There’s somebody in every corner to take care of you,” says Kate. “Between the cottages and the country club, it’s everything you could want in a luxury vacation.” Tennis, pickleball, yoga, and exercise classes are available as well—the list is seemingly endless.
