Working closely with architect Eric Sokol, Robie Wentworth’s magnificent kitchen island in Greenwood is drawn from a single slab of English elm. “We hand-cut the bow-tie keys in our shop,” Robie says. “One by one, we hammered them so each piece is slightly different. Each has its own shape.” Chemical aging gives the copper keys a patina meant to incorporate the island sink. “And the check is filled with an epoxy we dyed black,” says Robie. “It’s also textured to add more visual interest.”
